Sermon

Series: Better Together
Part #1 of 3

Title: Lost In The Crowd

Text Acts 2:42 - 47

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer.

43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.

45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

    * It’s not good to be alone.
      Genesis 2:18, Proverbs 27:17

    * HOW LONG COULD YOU SURVIVE ALONE WITHOUT LOSING YOUR MIND?

    * What did life in the early church actually look like?
    * What would you become without the fellowship of other believers?
          o Judgmental
          o Off Track… Selective hearing is a problem  Proverbs 27:17
          o You are who your friends are.
          o Lonely

2. Why don’t people want to fellowship in Small groups?

    * We just don’t see that it is important.
    * It’s not a priority.
    * They aren’t connected enough.
    * Fear Factor
    * Not enough information on it.
    * It’s boring

3. What is the benefit of the small group?

    * Apocalypse NOW! Or at some point in the future.
    * Encouragement.
    * Support.  A should to cry on, a hand to high five.
    * Sounding board.  For Christian growth.
    * Friendship.  I can offer you that the best group of people you could ever become close to are the people at ICA.

GO Question

1. When was the last time you felt really, really alone? What did you do about it? Did you keep to yourself and wallow in your loneliness? Or did you seek out the fellowship of other believers to minister to you?

2. In the early church, where there aren't big buildings yet for worship services, believers gather together in small groups, and fellowship in their houses.  The word 'fellowship' used in the bible (koinonia) literally means 'having things in common'.   In your GG, what do you think is common among you that keeps you going stronger and united as a group?

3. In your opinion, why do you think people don't want to fellowship in Small Groups? (Choose one below) Share your reason to your group.
  • We just don't see that it is important.
  • It is not a priority.
  • We are not comfortable enough.
  • Fear Factor
  • Not enough information about it.
  • It's boring.
4. As a member of your Go Group, what are the benefits of the group to you personally? Share to the group.

5. Below are the possible benefits of a fellowship in your spiritual and personal life. Choose one that is most needed in your life right now.
  • Encouragement
  • Support
  • Sounding Board
  • Friendship
  • Others ___________
6. There are a lot of ICA goers who are non- Go Group goers. How do you think we can bring them to our small groups? Do you have any suggestions? Brainstorm with your group on how to raise your radar for new, and even old ICA goers, to be involved with our small groups.

Prayer Points:
God is a relational God. He obviously puts a high value on relationships since it was the very thing that He withheld from Adam and Eve, and all mankind, when Adam fell into sin... and it's the very thing (the ONLY THING) that He is requiring to avail Salvation—A Relationship with His Son Jesus Christ.

Pray that we, as His children, will put a high importance to the relationships around us, too:
  • relationships among our families
  • relationships in the sphere of our influence (friends, co-workers, employees..etc)
  • relationships in our small groups

      .....that we may have the kind of relationship God wants us to enjoy and have as Children of a Relational, Loving God.
