SermonSeries: The Jesus Factor - #3 The Personal Jesus Introduction: What is this title about? - It is based on questions that you asked that were personal in nature.
- IF THERE ARE YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE ROOM TAKE THEM TO SS. I AM WARNING YOU NOW.
- I didn’t want to answer some of these questions.
In Today’s message I’m going to break it into four categories. - Fun Questions
- Hard Questions ***
- Smart Questions
- Prayer Questions
Fun Questions - The hard saying (hard to understand) of Jesus… If Jesus was Indonesian which location he would have lived & why?
- What would Jesus say about our church if was to come here in person (physical body)? (Revelations)
- What is Jesus’ Favorite color?
- What is Jesus’ Favorite food?
Fun Questions - I would imagine he would have been born in a poor Javanese Christian family.
- Track 1: You guys are the greatest.
- Track 2: You need to work on some things.
- Blue… 2/3 of the world is Blue with the Ocean.
- What is Jesus’ favorite food? Barbequed Fish: John 21:7-9
Hard Questions- What does Jesus decide on a gay relationship that’s obviously better than most hetero relationship? (feels so right, yet I was raised in the Christian belief that it’s wrong)
- What does Jesus say about “already” divorced couple who was united in His name?
Hard Questions
- Jesus never directly addresses the issue of homosexuality. But the Bible in both the OT and the NT is clear that homosexual behavior is a sin. No matter how it feels it is a sin. Lev 18:22 "Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.
- Lev 20:13 "If a man practices homosexuality , having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.
Hard Questions (Continued) - So as a result of last weeks message I want you to know that Jesus is God. And God says that homosexuality is wrong. I don’t believe in ordaining Gay ministers or in gay marriage.
- On this note I believe that the church has done itself a disservice by hating Gay people. For the record…
- This is a chance for me to say that God hates all Sexual sin.
Hard Questions (Continued) - Divorce is never an option for the true believer. Our options should be that we under every circumstance try and resolve whatever conflict there is. But the Bible in both the OT and the NT talks about it.
- Malachi 2:16 "For I hate divorce !" says the Lord, the God of Israel. "To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty," says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife."
- I don’t believe that divorce is the “unpardonable sin” So, what does Jesus say about “already” divorced couple who was united in His name?
- "You have heard the law that says, 'A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a written notice of divorce .' 32 But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.
Smart Questions - What the Jesus methods of doing successful business (ethically)?? (Jesus way of doing business)
- What will Jesus be saying to see His followers struggle more in the materialistic & consumptive world?
- Jesus knows from the very start He created me, what I would become/ grow up, & grow old to be, doesn’t he? … coz sometimes I also think, He knows already I go to Heaven or Hell, and I feel, well it’s all set & we’re just puppets.
- When is the right time for a kid to receive Jesus? If a 8/9/10 years old kid died, would he go to heaven? In the book “Heaven is so real” I read that kids under 7 years old will go to heaven when they die. My son is turning 7 soon. Should I ask him to receive Jesus now? Or should I wait until he decides to do it by himself… not knowing when?
- “What should I do … how to overcome this…?” I really am trying to be a good, real Christian for Jesus & myself by doing what God wants me to do. However, there’re always things in my life … happening every minute that forbid me for doing so! Especially my family! Why? Dan 3:16-18
Smart Questions - Jesus was born in the Market place. The stable was a modern day gas station or parking lot. Shepherds were modern day small business people. Not born in the temple in the family of priests and they never came to see him at his birth.
- For 18 years Jesus was a business man entrepreneur. In Mark 6 :3 he was rejected by his own village because the tables and yokes for their oxen were possibly made by Jesus and his father. Pricing, securing raw materials, maintenance of equipment, supply and demand and everything else that comes with running a small business. We like to think of Jesus as a monk but honestly He ran a small business.
- People rejected him because he was from the local business men not the established religious group.
Smart Questions - His parables reflect a good grasp on many aspects of local business.
o Construction Matt. 7:24-27 o Wine making Luke 5:37-38 o Farming Mark 4:2-20 o Treasure hunting Matt. 13:44 o Ranching Matt 18:12-14 o Management & Labor Matt 20:1-16 o Family Owned business Matt 21 28-31 o Hostile takeover Luke 20:9-19 o Return on investment Matt 25: 14-30 o Future Markets Luke 12:16-21 o Crop Yield mark 13:27-32 o Management Criteria Luke 12: 35-38 o Misuse of Money and Bankruptcy Luke 15:11-16 o Leveraging Luke 16:1-13 o Venture Capitol Luke 19:11-27.
Smart Questions - Jesus was a friend of both the poor and the rich. He interacted with wealthy business people. His message to them was don’t over charge, don’t extort, Be honest, be fair & don’t store up too much wealth here on earth without sending it on ahead of you.
- Actually a lot more to be said but I will stop there. Read or get the book. *** Anointed for Business by Ed Silvoso***
Smart Questions - What will Jesus be saying to see His followers struggle more in the materialistic & consumptive world? Matt 6:24-34
- Puppets… Try not to think about it if it’s true then it’s true.
- I believe that all children go to heaven!
- Life is a test in some ways. DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND!
Prayer Questions - Is Jesus always listening not to our prayer but also our mind and thoughts? Will there be a time when He got upset and bore to our prayers?
- Why should we pray to ask for something if Jesus already has a plan for us?
- (ex: we pray asking for PS3 but Jesus thinks that we can’t have it so he doesn’t give us)
- Is he ever bored with our prayer and request?
Prayer Questions- Matt 7:7-11 7 Effective Prayer "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 "You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
Prayer Questions - Does He ever get bored? NO… But maybe He laughs…
- He knows our NEEDS. Defining that and knowing if we have enough faith are big factors in answered prayers.
GO Question Dear Leaders, here are the questions i prepared with Ossi, but i'm sure many more can be asked! Be sensitive to the personal questions your members may have and try to deal with them.
God bless us all!
Ice breaker:
Think about it: If Jesus would be born in Indonesia in 2008, where and under which circumstances would He be born and grow up? Share and explain why….. Make it a competition for the best or most creative answer ;o)
Tough issues friends. Now more than ever, pick the questions you think fit your group best and adjust them as you wish. You may wanna add some questions and/or do a little study by yourself as well. God bless you as you prepare and lead!
1. So, what do you think about gay relationships? Is your opinion based on the bible?
2. Statement: "We cannot base right or wrong on how we feel."
Share whether or not you agree with this statement and explain why.
Now be honest and try to remember two occasions when you actually based right or wrong on how you felt (or at least was tempted to).
3. Two statements:
· God hates ALL sexual sins.
· God doesn't hate us when we commit sin.
How do the statements above relate?
Do you agree with both of them?
Do you feel God's anger when you think of a sexual sin?
Read John 8: 2-11. Do you think Jesus approved of this woman's sin? What can we learn from his reactions?
Do you think God should punish everybody who commits sexual sins?
4. Do you agree that divorce is sinful? Is your opinion based on the bible?
Where would we be if God would break his covenant with us?
Read Matt 5: 31-32 and Matt 19: 4-11
Is marital unfaithfulness an exception and a valid reason for divorce?
5. Statement: "ALL children go to heaven, regardless the religion of the family they're born into"
What's your opinion about that statement?
Is there sin that all humans have inherited from Adam & Eve? Are children free from it?
6. Everybody has needs and wants. The difficulty is how to define need and want. Share your thoughts on this and let people give a personal example.
7. Pray to the Lord and pray for each other!
