SermonGod Can Use Anyone! A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife, Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Eliud, Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ. ~ Tamar – Aramaic (Genesis 38) ~ Rahab – a Canaanite prostitute (Joshua 2 and 6) ~ Ruth – was from Moab (Naomi’s daughter in law) ~ Bathsheba – she is a Jew but Matthew intentionally changes the expression to make her non-Jewish (Hittite). God Can Use Anyone! 1. God does not make any genre distinction between man and woman or male and female. 2. The gentiles are not the exception in the plan of God. 3. Sinners are used by God! GO QuestionGOD CAN USE ANYONE! Mat 1:1-17 ice breaker: How many generation does your family genealogy has (do you know)? 1. Why do you think God let "notorious" women listed in the Jesus Genealogy purposely? 2. Do you believe God can use you mightily? Mention one name you know (not from the Bible) who has been used by God surprisingly. (maybe from poor family, broken family, abused/molested childhood, ex prisoner, prostitute, extinct race, minority, etc) 3. Do you agree that a woman can be a leader in ministry or a pastor in church? Do you know any? 4. How can God use you? (God can use you by serving Him, You can serve Him by serving others. . He made no one else like you, giving you the gifts and capabilities to do what He planned for you. But our talents are to benefit others, not ourselves, we can't be used by God unless we serve Him and we can’t serve God unless we serve other people. It’s the donation, not the duration, of our life that is important.) 5. What are the barriers for you to be used by God? ( ex. self-centeredness, perfectionism, materialism, comparing, criticizing, wrong motivations, envy, jealousy, worldly success, family, priority) 6. What kind of attitude do we need to be used by God? (ex. willingness, surrender, humble, available, grateful, faithful, generous) 7. Can a success or pursuit of success be a hindrance to be used by God? Have a great GG discussion! God bless, Poedji |
