SermonIt’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s SUPER MOM. (Exodus 2:1-10) Intro: * What are MOMS? * What do MOMS teach? * Some MOMMY Stats? Exodus 2:1-10 About this time, a man and woman from the tribe of Levi got married. 2 The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. 4 The baby's sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. 5 Soon Pharaoh's daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. 6 When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. "This must be one of the Hebrew children," she said. 7 Then the baby's sister approached the princess. "Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?" she asked. 8 "Yes, do!" the princess replied. So the girl went and called the baby's mother. 9 "Take this baby and nurse him for me," the princess told the baby's mother. "I will pay you for your help." So the woman took her baby home and nursed him. 10 Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh's daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses, for she explained, "I lifted him out of the water." Holy Bible, New Living Translation ®, copyright © 1996, 2004 by Tyndale Charitable Trust. The first thing necessaryto becomea SUPER MOM IS...GODbecause…Sometimes mothers live in anonymity (vs.1) o We don’t even know the name of Moses’ mother. o If you are a mom do you ever feel like you live in anonymity? o Who is the most famous person you can think of? o It wasn’t that Moses didn’t know her name. Mothers are often asked to sacrifice it all (vs.2-4) o Moses mother sacrificed in order to keep her son alive. o She took a huge risk in doing this but it was all she could do. o Do we even realize how much our mother’s sacrificed for us? They have to see something special in their children if their children are to succeed o Imagine this was the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. o I wonder what this mother saw in her 3 children? o When you look at your children do you see something special or do you see the mistakes? o Size up your attitude today toward your children. They are to make it in this tough economic world (vs. 7-9) o She was a good bargain hunter. o She was paid to nurse her own baby. o In today’s world we probably have it too easy. o There are times where I long for the ‘Good Ol’ days’ They can learn to let go (vs. 10) o The hardest thing for a mother to do it let go. o The biggest problems I see in marriages is that there are mothers that have never learned to let go. o There doesn’t seem to be any resentment on the part of Moses. o Do you carry any resentment toward your mother? |
