2 Samuel 3:1
“The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker." God was sorry that He ever made Saul king because: 1 Samuel 13:13 And Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 1 Samuel 15:30 Then he said, "I have sinned; yet honor me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord your God." 1 Samuel 28:6-7 And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets. Then Saul said to his servants, "Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her." And his servants said to him, "In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor." 2 Samuel 5:12 “And David became more and more powerful because the Lord God Almighty was with him. And David realized that the Lord had made him king over Israel and had made his kingdom great for the sake of His people, Israel.” True greatness is always synonymous with SERVICE Lessons from David: * Acts 13:22 - David was a man after God’s own heart. * Acts 13:36 – David was obedient. He served this generation according to God’s will * 1 Samuel 17 – David was bold * 1 Samuel 22:1-2 – David was compassionate * 1 Samuel 24 & 26 – David was merciful * Psalm 51:4 – David was repentant * 2 Samuel 7:18-21 – David was humble So what did God have in mind for David? Nothing less than the promise of a kingdom that would last forever… Jesus is David’s direct descendant (Acts 2:22-26). He is the Savior King who reigns both now & forever! |
