Sermon

What have you been doing the last two months?

    * We drove 13,000 kilometers.
    * Jeff Spoke 34 times in 59 days and Liz and the girls.
    * AND….. We ATE!

In the Bible, Jesus Fulfilled 3 Prophecies:

1. As PROPHET…  Duet. 18:15 Moses continued, “ The Lord your God, will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to Him.”  Peter quotes this exact verse in Acts 3:22.

    * What did a Prophet do?
          o A common misconception is that he is like a fortune teller.
          o Basically He spoke the word of God!
    * Jesus said I am the word. He never said “The Lord said”. He would always say I tell you the truth… He said it 50 times in the gospel of John alone.
    * Jesus came to preach.
    * Reading the word of God is Jesus putting his finger in your chest and saying “hey you, what are you doing?”

2. As PRIEST

    * In the OT, the priest would bring the hopes, fears & sins of the people before God as their mediator. He would also bring the sacrifices to God on behalf of the people.
    * Jesus as priest makes both our prayer & worship possible.
    * Example of this is Matthew 9:9-13 He literally tells his own story.  Matthew 20:28 says’ “For even the son of man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
    * This one should make you feel good.

3. As KING

    * In John 18: 36-37 Jesus has a conversation with Pilate and reveals that his Kingdom is not of this world.
    * Jesus was meant to rule in the hearts of men & women & in turn affect the world.
    * There should be no personal life for the Christian.

3 Formulas:

Prophet + King – Priest = Fundamentalist

    * Who is a Fundamentalist?
    * The strength is that they are often keenly aware of Jesus as the commander of repentance.
    * The weakness is that it usually results in either desperation of pride.
    * I hope this isn’t you.

Priest + King – Prophet = Liberalism

    * This Jesus is infinitely patient, tolerant and understanding.
    * I’m OK you’re OK every road leads to God and He is not concerned about our regular practices
    * This may be my fault

Prophet + Priest – King = Evangelism

    * In this form of a personal Jesus we still rule our own life.
    * Practically they don’t see Jesus ruling over them but rather coming along side them as their partner.
    * We only tend to want Jesus as King when things aren’t going well & we call on him to rule over our sickness & problems but not over our lives.
