Sermon

Why was Jesus the Greatest Missionary in Human History?

Jesus took the ultimate journey to pay the ultimate price to reach the ultimate
mission field:  The World

“I will never let anybody out sacrifice me for Saddleback Church.”

Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life

  • Jesus sacrificed the most to reach the world. He lived in heaven before coming to earth.
  • Jesus sacrificed the most to reach the world.
  • He lived in heaven before coming to earth.
  • Jesus put it all aside and left it for us!
  • Jesus voluntarily set aside his divine attributes: his omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience and became a man.

Luke 23:33
Finally, they came to a place called The Skull. All three were crucified there—Jesus on the center cross, and the two criminals on either side. Jesus said, “Father, forgive these people, because they don’t know what they are doing.”

      2. Jesus had the greatest ministry.

      3. Jesus had audacity.
Audacity means: having courage, boldness, being daring, having disregard for normal restraint

Jesus left a legacy.
    * Legacy is a gift left to the next generation or generations.
    * We are still celebrating Jesus’ birthday, 2000 years later. Talk about a legacy!

Romans 10:12-13
Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord who gives generously to all who call on Him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

    * Jesus was the greatest Purpose-Driven missionary.

Luke 13:31-33
A few minutes later some Pharisees said to him, “Get out of here if you want to live, because Herod Antipas wants to kill you!”  Jesus replied, “Go tell that fox that I will keep on casting out demons and doing miracles of healing today and tomorrow; and the third day I will accomplish my purpose.” Yes, today, tomorrow, and the next day I must proceed on my way.”

John 6:27 Jesus said:
“But you shouldn’t be so concerned about perishable things like food.  Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that I, the Son of Man, can give you.  For God the Father has sent me for that very purpose.”

Garden of Gethsemane Mark 14:32-42
And they came to an olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “Sit here while I go and pray.” He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he began to be filled with horror and deep distress. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.

Stay here and watch with me.” He went a little farther and fell face down on the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will not mine.”

Jesus’ purpose was to do God’s work.

Some of Jesus’ last words were:

Matthew 28:18-20
“I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.  And be sure of this:  I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

GO Question

1. Have you ever want something so much that you will sacrifice everything in order to attain it? Please share.
Jesus sacrificed the most to reach the world. Is reaching to the world is your most desire?
How far will you go to reach the lost? How much money, time, position, etc will you sacrifice to reach to people?

2. In which ministry are you involved now?  Why you choose that ministry? Please share.
If you have not involved in any ministry, why?

3. What do you consider audicity? Example:......
Have you ever done something "audiciously" in your live? Please share.
Do you think you can do something audiciously for mission?

4. Do you have an ambition to leave you legacy to the next generation? If yes, please share the laegacy you want to leave behind and explain why you want to leave
    that legacy. If not, why?
