* Definition: They are false promises we make to ourselves that we never intend to keep but by making them we feel better at least for a day. * It was established in Babylon and the #1 resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment. You can buy one on E-bay for $1.90… I looked and looked and not sure what you end up buying.

??? For thought.
* # 1. What was your greatest failure in 2007? #2. What was your greatest accomplishment in 2007? #3. What change in your life brought about a negative result? * #4. What change in your life brought about a positive result?
Two simple Bible verses
* Psalm 37…Ps 37:5 * 5 Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. * Prov 16:3 Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
Why should we?
* Because we desire something better. * If you want to achieve greatness do something great. * Most people think that it is just luck that makes us into a success.
What kinds of Commitments do we make or should we make?
* We can and should make personal goals. These can include things like: o Our bodies o Our education o Our work * We can make family goals. o Toward our close family members. o Toward spouses
What kinds of Commitments do we make or should we make?
* We can and should make spiritual goals o What commitments do I want to make to the Lord? + Pray more + Read the word more + Commit to read a Christian book this year. + Now write one down: o What commitments do I want to make to the church? Now write one down o What commitments do I want to make to my fellow man? Now write one down
How do we make a commitment
* We Pray and reflect about it. o Many people are too vain to make a resolution. o Life is short! You won’t have a lot of second chances. * Find a person or way to make yourselves accountable for the resolution you made. * Don’t give up if you fail in your pursuit of a goal.
What kinds of challenges should we expect?
* The moment the resolution is made expect an attack! * Remember that good things come through hard work and sacrifice. * We’ve got to change our mind set that life isn’t just an accident you can make something good of it.
GO Question Ice Breaker: What is your last year's resolution(s)? Did you manage to keep it until the end of 2006? Questions Read Psalm 37:5 and Proverbs 16:3. - These verses basically say that you must commit your plans and actions to the Lord to be able to succeed. What do you think of this verse? Why should we do it?
There are 3 kinds of commitments that we can make: personal goals, family goals, and spiritual goals. - For personal goals, what are your resolutions for next year?
- For family goals, what are the areas that need improvement in your relationship?
- For spiritual goals, which area of dedication needs any improvement? (the Lord, church, or fellow man)
- When we look back at the year of 2006, we see that most of us failed to fulfill our resolutions. This is because of many things, and the most important is the lack of commitment. What do you think of the ways to keep a commitment successful?
- Based on your experience, what are the challenges that you faced after you make a commitment? What are the steps you took to overcome these challenges?
Share commitments for next year within your cell group, and pray about it. Suggest that each member find a partner and make one self's accountable. Cell group can also make a commitment together. Happy New Year 2007!!!!! GO Question by Sinaga Pradjinata
